The largest mass wedding in the sub-region ever took place on Saturday in Teso with 61 couples being married.

Bishop Mark Kadima of the Bungoma Catholic Diocese presided over the historic occasion.

According to the event’s organizers, the goal is for more couples in Teso North sub county’s Chelelemuk Parish to observe the Bible’s requirements for the marriage sacrament.

The 61 couples’ wedding vows were administered by Bishop Kadima over the course of three and a half hours.

Guests were entertained by the choir from Chelelemuk Parish Catholic Church while the event periodically stopped owing to erratic power shortages.

Kadima lauded the couples for their dedication and promised them of the assistance from the church in their marriage life.

The roads between Malaba-Angurai-Moding and Angurai-Malakisi as well as Busia-Malaba were busy for the greater part of the day as convoys of cars cruised to fetch brides and bridegrooms from their respective homes .

After exchanging their “I do’s” in their local Chelelemuk parish Catholic Church, the happy couple was driven back home for a reception.

Ululations from friends and family of the 61 filled the air each time Bishop Kadima gave the vows and asked the couples to affirm their commitment to marriage.
