The Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, recommended that the arrests be carried out, and those and the persons responsible be brought to book.
Haji has proposed that the officers be charged with the murder of the four villagers who were killed while protesting the invasion of their farms by elephants. These people were killed while demonstrating for their rights.
On that fatal day, the officers were making their way back to their base in Mombasa when they came across the demonstrators.
“It was determined through postmortem exams that each of the fatalities was the result of a single gunshot wound. During the autopsies, a bullet head and bullet fragments were recovered from each of the victims.” reads the report.
As a result of the deaths of the four individuals, former President Uhuru Kenyatta had issued an order mandating that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) investigate the incident and subsequently arrest those responsible for it.
