Following the resignation of George Kinoti, President William Ruto appointed Amin Mohamed Ibrahim to the position of Director of Criminal Investigations.

On Friday, October 14, Ruto issued a special Gazette Notice in which he formally appointed Amin to his new position.

Amin was formerly the head of the Internal Affairs Department (IAU).

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) selected Ibrahim as one of the top 10 finalists for the role.

After the post-election violence in 2007, he earned recognition when he testified before the International Criminal Court (ICC) on behalf of then-Police Commissioner Hussein Ali.
