Published on

Anne Mumbi Waiguru, governor of Kirinyaga, has been chosen to lead the Council of Governors (CoG) going forward.

In a secret ballot held on Saturday, September 17, Waiguru easily defeated her opponent, Joseph Ole Lenku of Kajiado.

Martin Wambora, the departing governor of Embu, was succeeded as CoG leader by the second-term governor, who received the majority of the votes cast.

Waiguru, who was backed by Kenya Kwanza, which is headed by President William Ruto, had previously urged other governors to support her run, stating that her expertise as Devolution Cabinet Secretary made her the ideal candidate. She was supported in her effort by Kenya Kwanza.
Waiguru has been congratulated by several prominent figures, including the Governor of Embu, Cecily Mbarire, and Senior Counsel Abdullahi Ahmednassir.

Wajir Mohamed Abdi Mohamud will deputise Waiguru.
