Anti-Counterfeit Authority seizes counterfeit goods worth Sh50 million at China Square Mall

Date:

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority seized counterfeit goods worth Sh50 million at China Square Mall after a complaint was lodged over the branding of these goods with “Finder”, a registered trademark belonging to M/s Smithmo Company Limited.

The Authority’s Enforcement Directorate conducted an inspection on 16/2/2023, where they made on-site seizures of goods with an estimated value of Sh50 million. The confiscated items included hardware materials and tools owned by the legitimate brand owner.

China Square Mall has come under fire recently for alleged unfair business practices, prompting the retail outlet to close shop indefinitely on Sunday to review its business model.

Traders in the CBD held protests on Tuesday over the alleged unfair practices, which they feel have resulted in a loss of customers.

Trade CS Kuria has also stated that while Kenya welcomes Chinese investors, they should be present as manufacturers, not just traders.
