On Sunday, Azimio Chief Raila Odinga will hold one of his anti-government protests in the county of Busia. This demonstration is part of the fourth in a series of many protests planned by the Azimio La Umoja Coalition to put pressure on President William Ruto’s administration over what they perceive to be unpopular policies.
Support from Former President Uhuru Kenyatta
After visiting the funeral of late Education CS George Magoha in Siaya on Saturday, Raila was in Kisumu County. This time, former president Uhuru Kenyatta attended to him and reaffirmed his support for Raila. The ODM leader has continued to organize anti-government protests despite calls from various leaders for him to quit because he is splitting the nation.
Planned Protests in Busia and Kisii
Raila plans to host a second demonstration on Monday in Kisii town after the one in Busia. The demonstrations, labeled “public consultation sessions,” have been led by Raila along with more than 100 leaders elected on different political parties linked with the Azimio La Umoja Coalition. The demonstration in Machakos was held on Friday, while at Mlolongo in the Mavoko sub-county, Raila led the protest.
Despite the calls for him to quit organizing protests, Raila continues to put pressure on the government to address what he and the coalition perceive as unpopular policies. The nation will be watching to see how these demonstrations will play out and what impact they will have.
