Machakos county was the scene of another anti-government demonstration on Friday, as Azimio leaders held their fourth rally to denounce the Kenya Kwanza administration. Led by Raila Odinga, more than 100 leaders elected on various political party tickets affiliated with Azimio gathered at Mlolongo in the Mavoko sub-county for the latest in a series of “public consultation meetings.”
The Machakos rally follows three previous demonstrations at the Kamukunji and Jacaranda grounds, as well as Sunday’s Kamukunji declaration in Kibra. Raila maintained that the Azimio leaders do not recognize President William Ruto’s administration, which they view as illegitimate. He claimed that he won the 2022 elections but was rigged out.
A number of prominent leaders were in attendance at the Machakos rally, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee Secretary General Kioni, and several MPs, including Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Patrick Makau (Mavoko), Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Tim Wanyonyi (Westlands), Robert Mbui (Kathiani), and Mawathe (Embakasi South).
Despite the government’s efforts to intimidate them, the leaders made it clear that they will continue to agitate for their constitutional rights and defend their perceived win. They stated that they will not be silenced and will continue to voice their dissent against the Kenya Kwanza administration.
