Machakos, Kenya- The Azimio coalition is gearing up for their much-anticipated “people’s consultation meeting” in Machakos. This meeting aims to bring together leaders, citizens, and members of the coalition to discuss the current political and social landscape in Kenya.
Leadership Uncertainty at the Meeting
Although the details of the meeting are yet to be confirmed, it is unclear whether Ukambani governors Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos), Julius Malombe (Kitui), and Mutula Kilonzo Junior of Makueni will attend. In the past, these leaders have been closely affiliated with the Azimio coalition and their presence at the meeting could significantly impact the discussions.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to Lead the Rally
The meeting will be led by the Azimio leader, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who will lead a rally at Mlolongo after stopping over at Athi River and Kitengela towns. Raila, who visited Machakos in July during his presidential campaign, is expected to drum up support for the coalition and its members.
Criticism of “Traitorous” Leaders
Azimio leaders have been vocal in their criticism of elected members who have declared their support for the government. Raila himself called these leaders “traitors” and demanded that they resign. The leaders’ stance has sparked a heated debate within the coalition and is expected to be a significant topic of discussion at the meeting.
Hosted by MP Patrick Makau
The meeting will be hosted by Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, who was among the leaders campaigned for by Raila during the last polls. Makau is seen as a strong supporter of the Azimio coalition and his involvement in the meeting is expected to bring a new level of energy to the discussions.
Salvaging Kenya’s Democracy
Kalonzo, a prominent member of the Azimio coalition, emphasized the importance of salvaging Kenya’s democracy during a speech to coalition legislators. He stressed the need for immediate action and urged the attendees to shape their political future by standing for what is best for the country.
“We have work to do, and that is to salvage our democracy,” Kalonzo declared. The “people’s consultation meeting” is seen as a crucial step in this process and is expected to bring about positive change for Kenya and its citizens.
