To show their appreciation for their assistance throughout the campaigns, ODM party members Senator Ledama Ole Kina of Narok and Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, Babu Owino, want to be rewarded.
At a press conference on Friday, September 23, the two said they felt unrecognized despite their years of loyalty to former prime minister Raila Odinga and his party.
Both said they would stop supporting ODM if their complaints were not addressed.
Their main complaint was the allocation of house leadership posts, which they said was unjustly favoring the ODM party’s more senior members.
“Getting the party’s young members and devoted members recognized is important to us. Otherwise, some of us will begin acting dishonorably immediately. If the youths of ODM aren’t going to be rewarded, then we’ll find ways to make our own rewards ” Ledama Ole Kina remarked.
He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that he placed his life in danger for the party on August 15 at the Bomas of Kenya, when the results of the presidential election were being announced.
On the flip side, Babu advocated that his party adopt the same method of dividing up leadership roles as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Raila plans to convene a crisis conference to discuss the escalating fallout from recent events.
