Ann Nderitu, Kenya’s Registrar of Political Parties, officially announced Babu Owino as the party’s new Secretary for Science and Technology on Friday, October 21.
In a Sunday, October 23rd statement, the lawmaker expressed his lack of interest in the role.
Lawmaker Paul Ongili, who declined the role, said he had made his desire to lead the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
He expressed this.
After finding out he hadn’t been chosen for the prestigious PAC Chairperson position, the legislator referred to himself as a “wounded ODM soldier” in September 2022.
Owino would have been at the front of efforts to scrutinize government expenditures and promote accountability and transparency in the state in this capacity.
Owino said that he had 99 percent support from Azimio la Umoja One Kenya MPs to serve as PAC Chairperson, but subsequently got a call from a top ODM party official requesting him to stand aside for the Nominated MP John Mbadi.
