Betrayal of Uhuru Kenyatta: How Ruto Controlled the ‘System’ says Makau Mutua

Date:

“Uhuru’s Endorsement of Raila Goes Unnoticed”

It’s been a while since the dust settled on the controversial 2022 presidential election, but as it turns out, there’s more to the story. According to Makau Mutua, the outspoken Azimio spokesperson, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta was a staunch supporter of Raila Odinga’s candidacy.

However, according to Mutua, Kenyatta’s support was not enough to secure the win for Raila. The reason? Betrayal. Most of the people who worked around Kenyatta reportedly betrayed him.

“Ruto Holds the Keys to the Machinery of the State”

According to Mutua, the Deputy President at the time, William Ruto, had control over the most powerful elements of the state. “Ruto controlled the biggest and most lethal aspects of the state,” Mutua stated. “Kenyatta was betrayed by a lot of people around him.”

But why did Ruto hold so much power? Well, Mutua questions that himself and believes that historians will be trying to answer that question for a long time to come.

Before the election, many people who had remained loyal to Kenyatta suddenly switched to Ruto’s side, while others are believed to have been silently supporting Ruto all along. Makau Mutua, a law professor, political analyst, and commentator, has been asking questions about Ruto’s power since the political divorce with Kenyatta. And now, the truth is finally out.
