Following Moses Wetangula’s appointment as Speaker of the National Assembly, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has gazetted December 8th, 2022 as the date for the Bungoma senate by-election.
Wafula Chebukati, the chair of the IEBC, gave political parties until October 13 to submit a list of candidates interested in replacing Wetangula.
By-elections for the following wards will also take place on December 8th: Ololmasani, Kyome/Thaana, Utawala, Mumias North and South Gem Wards in Narok, Kitui, Nairobi City, Kakamega, and Siaya County Assemblies.
Primaries should be finalized by October 19 for those who have more than one candidate.
Chebukati has requested all candidates to abide by the Constitution’s Chapter Six—Leadership and Integrity.
By October 24, IEBC must have the names of candidates for county assembly seats.
It further specified that campaigns must be held between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
