Five Individuals Apprehended for Stealing a Newborn

Five people, four women, and one man were arrested on Sunday by DCI detectives from the Bungoma police station for allegedly stealing a child last December. The individuals are accused of stealing the baby from the maternity wing of a health facility in the county.

Investigation Underway

Speaking to the media, Bungoma South Sub-county deputy police commander Wilson Muraya noted that the case was reported at the station by Mercy Chebet from Chepyuk in Mt. Elgon. Chebet claimed that one of her children was missing after she delivered twins in December at the facility. She had claimed that she gave birth to twins (boy and girl) but was only handed a girl.

Arraignment Pending

Four of the five suspects will be arraigned on Monday to answer charges of child trafficking. Muraya reported that the DCI detectives arrested one of the suspects with an unclaimed baby. She was detained at the Bungoma police station, awaiting arraignment.
