Youth Affairs, Sports, and Arts Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba formed the Creatives Technical Committee, a new addition to the Kenya Kwanza government, on February 10, 2023. The group, which will be chaired by famed comedian Daniel ‘Churchill’ Ndambuki, will serve for three years.
Renowned Figures Join Forces
Akinyi Odongo, Jimmi Gathu, Esther ‘Akothee’ Akoth, Kizito Makhande, Rosemary Wahu Kagwi, Awadhi Salim Awadhi, Douglas Kipkirui, and Langat Susan Ekasiba will be among those on the committee, in addition to Churchill. Famous people who have joined the Kenya Kwanza administration include TikToker and radio personality Azziad Nasenya, comedian Daniel ‘Churchill’ Ndambuki, and actress Catherine Kamau.

Important Goals and Objectives
According to the gazette notification, the Creatives Technical Committee’s mission is to revive Kenya’s sports and creative sector. CS Namwamba emphasized the committee’s primary objectives, which include developing efficient procedures for royalty collection and distribution, implementing the National Creatives Economy Plan, and promoting Kenya as a renowned film-making destination.
The committee will also be in charge of the Kenyan Grammys and will use digital technologies to find, develop, and promote talent. Monetizing the creative sector will be a significant goal in order to generate jobs and contribute to Kenya’s economic progress. The group will also provide suggestions on how to improve the country’s arts infrastructure and facilities to match international standards.
Finally, the Creatives Technical Committee and Council have a wide mandate to carry out the Cabinet Secretary’s tasks. If necessary, the Council may co-opt up to two more members to provide advise or help in areas considered critical. The government’s decision to recruit the talents of well-known individuals to propel the creative sector ahead is a step in the right way.
