As a result of noise complaints, 43 nightclubs were threatened with closure. Nairobi’s nightclub owners breathed a sigh of relief when the administration of Governor Johnson Sakaja reversed its decision to remove their permits.

Njoroge Muchiri, the Deputy Governor of Nairobi, has issued an order for the club’s owners to comply with the law.

Our goal is to help businesses to succeed, but you must not infringe on people’s rights,

    he said, adding that

we have a responsibility and an obligation to ensure we provide a conducive environment for enterprises of all sizes to function.

In addition, he suggested that bars and clubs self-regulate and take measures to lessen noise pollution, such as installing soundproofing.

Muchiri stressed the need of constant communication and joint effort between the business community and the residents’ association in enforcing zoning regulations and preventing disputes.

Consequently, he proposed holding quarterly roundtable stakeholders meetings between locals and business owners to assess the situation.

The Sakaja administration is pro-business.  We are concentrating on altering how we enforce and provide help to businesses rather than harassing them.

    Muchiri said.

Furthermore, the DG reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to safeguarding businesses, emphasizing the need of engaging in conversation to reach a long-term resolution.
