On Monday, August 30th, a contentious election was conducted to fill the governor’s seat in Kakamega. The winner was businessman Fernandes Barasa of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
A former senator from Kakamega, Cleophas Malala of the Amani National Congress (ANC), received 159,508 votes against Barasa’s 192,929.
In his acceptance speech, Barasa expressed gratitude to the people of Kakamega for electing him as their future governor.
