Reports of police officers being killed by bandits in Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) in North Rift have been dismissed by Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan.
Hassan stated that the reports were false and had only been spread through social media.
He urged Kenyans to wait for an official press briefing on the matter.
During the operation, a group of bandits ambushed Kenya Defence Forces and police officers in Kainuk, but the security team managed to repel the attack.
The operation led to the seizure of 23 guns and the apprehension of two armed men.
The goal of the operation is to flush out bandits in North Rift while maintaining high levels of professionalism throughout the process.
The Regional Commissioner assured law-abiding citizens that they will not be targeted and encouraged them to collaborate with the security teams.
Residents have expressed concerns about being caught up in the ongoing operation and asked the government to use different tactics to tackle the menace.
The Regional Commissioner indicated that they will work with special operations teams to develop more effective approaches to tackle the situation.
