Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for questioning over an alleged botched raid on his Karen home.
The investigation centers around allegations of the publication of false information regarding the raid.
Matiang’i is currently out of the country and was not aware of the summonses.
The DCI had visited his home but did not find him.
In addition, a court has extended conservatory orders on the police, stopping them from harassing or arresting Matiang’i until April 19, 2023.
The government has denied the occurrence of a botched raid and accused Matiang’i and his lawyers of spreading false information.
Matiang’i’s lawyers Danstan Omari and Sam Nyaberi were also summoned, but Omari received a reprieve after a High Court judge stopped the DCI from summoning him.
The Law Society of Kenya condemned the action by the DCI and called on its members to turn up at DCI headquarters in solidarity with Omari.
