Crackdown on Donkey Meat: Dozens of Carcasses Seized in Kiambu County

Date:

Dozens of donkey carcasses were seized in Kiambu County during a crackdown on the sale of donkey meat disguised as beef fillet and other boneless chops in the city.

Two suspects were arrested, and two vehicles used for transporting the meat were impounded.

The traders also packaged the donkey intestines, kidneys and other internal organs which were sold to outlets dealing in popular roadside delicacy Mutura, supu and matumbo.

The suspects are currently in custody and being processed for arraignment.

This crackdown is part of the government’s efforts to stop the illegal trade of donkey meat, which has been linked to the disappearance of donkeys in the country.

The public is encouraged to report any cases of illegal slaughter of animals to the relevant authorities.
