The popular business entity, China Square, in Kenya has indefinitely suspended its operations after Trade CS Moses Kuria expressed interest in buying out its lease and handing it over to Kenyan traders.

The move has been met with criticism, with lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi accusing Kuria of fighting a successful business owned by a Chinese national.
Kuria insists that Kenya is open for business, but not open for dumping and that Kenya welcomes Chinese investors as manufacturers, not traders.
The move to protect local businesses has sparked a debate on the role of foreign investors in Kenya’s economy.
