The Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Aden Duale, held a meeting with senior officials from the State Department for Lands, Uasin Gishu county government and the National Lands Commission to resolve an issue concerning encroachment on military land in Eldoret.
The meeting, which was held at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, aimed to find a long-term solution to the conflicts arising from the occupation of lands at Moi Barracks, Recruits Training School and the Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation.
Duale acknowledged that the encroachment problem by squatters has been a long-standing issue and needs to be resolved permanently.
He said the ministry would provide alternative land to relocate the locals who have occupied areas close to the military installation and the factory.
The CS also praised the technical committee that had been working on finding viable recommendations and directed the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Lands to chair the committee to improve the document on the mechanisms of relocating the squatters.
