Rigathi Gachagua, Kenya’s deputy president, has remarked on the reported disagreement between himself and Nairobi’s governor, Johnson Sakaja.

In an interview aired on Sunday by Inooro TV, Gachagua claimed he doesn’t have anything against Sakaja and that he’s simply concerned about Kenyans’ welfare.

He went on to say that as the intermediary between the county and the national govt, it is his duty to speak out when things are not running well.

The DP made it clear that the government of Kenya Kwanza would not stand by quietly while citizens’ livelihoods are destroyed.

Gachagua said that the commercial activities carried out beside the matatu stages, such as clothing stores, are as important as the matatus themselves.

He also added that the owners of nightclubs that contribute to noise pollution in the city should not be targeted for harassment.

The DP said that because the same county government grants the licenses to the owners, they should be allowed at least six months to soundproof their restaurants rather than being shut down.
