DPP Haji warns former DCI head George Kinoti.

    Published on

If George Kinoti, the former head of the DCI, is found guilty of any crimes, Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has vowed he would prosecute him.

During an interview with a local TV station on Sunday night, Haji said that Kinoti was once a coworker, but he vowed not to take advantage of the position.

The DPP continued, warning that he, too, will be held accountable for any illegal actions he does.

“A person who breaks the law will be subject to legal consequences. No matter whether it’s him (Kinoti) or I (myself). In this case, you must face the legal system. This cannot be refuted under any circumstances. Since normalizing this will make it quite common in Kenya,” Moreover, Haji said.

After a high-ranking DCI official said Kinoti had instructed him to propose prosecuting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Sh7.3 billion corruption investigation, this development occurred.

According to Kuriah Obadiah, head of the team looking into the charges, DCI started delving into the subject after receiving a letter from the Financial Reporting Center on April 15, 2020.

It was the letter that sparked rumors of money being stolen from the National Irrigation Board and other organizations.

The Superintendent also said in a written document dated October 15 that he had been ordered to undertake an exhaustive probe.

He did note that it was challenging to undertake extensive and complete investigations into the charges since they were given “extremely rigorous and specific timetables to come up with results immediately.”

He elaborated, saying, “My staff made the recommendations based on enormous pressure from my director, Kinoti; the accused people were charged, and investigations could not proceed as anticipated for numerous reasons.”

According to Kuria, certain key aspects of the inquiry that would have indicated whether or not the accused was guilty were not explored.

Thereafter, he asked for the matter to be dismissed so that he could conduct a thorough investigation.
