NTSA: Drivers caught speeding will lose their number plates.

    Published on

On Monday, November 7, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Road Safety Association jointly launched a crackdown before the holiday season.

The authorities made the announcement at the Eastern bypass and warned drivers that they risk having their number plates taken away if they are found speeding.

They supported Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s call to cancel the licenses of serial offenders.

Murkomen highlighted plans to reintroduce rapid penalties, where drivers would be monitored by cameras placed on roadways and warned by SMS following an accident.

In addition, they said, cops would be given body cameras to use in the fight against corruption.

Officials said the Eastern bypass would be redesigned since it’s in horrible shape.

As public transportation vehicles often cause accidents by picking up and dropping off people on the main route, they also suggested adding a service lane to the same road.

The Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), Silas Kinoti, has confirmed that the Eastern Bypass is a current project and would be finished by January 2023.
