EACC exposed five county officials for stealing Ksh197 million.

An investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) uncovered a scheme in which five county officials and other employees stole Ksh196 million from the county’s finances.

It is believed that the suspects worked in the division responsible for economic and financial planning. Anti-graft agency claims they orchestrated a complex network of proxies to launder stolen public funds.

The five perpetrators, the EACC said in a statement released on September 28th, gained access to county monies, which they subsequently transferred to their personal accounts.

According to the allegations, the five conspirators split the money among themselves in the following sequence: Ksh48,697,530, Ksh30,452,715, and Ksh46,971,100 for each participant. The remaining individuals took home a total of Ksh20,432,965 and Ksh49,462,600, correspondingly.

Hours before, Siaya Senator James Orengo had demanded a probe into the disappearance of Ksh400 million over the course of 12 days.

Hours earlier, the Nation uncovered how Ksh400 million in public money was siphoned, and Siaya Senator James Orengo requested a probe into the suspected theft of such an amount. The Senior Counsel also said that he had found evidence of financial mismanagement in the county of Siaya.

Until an audit report is received, the former senator from Siaya said, his administration would not pay any invoices that have been delayed.
