Concerns have been raised over Jumwa’s candidacy to the cabinet, but Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi has sworn to protect her and any other female nominees from scrutiny if their male counterparts are treated lightly.
In an interview that aired on Citizen TV on October 11, Elachi said that she thinks the standards in Chapter 6 of the constitution, “Leadership and Integrity,” and other sections are often only applied selectively when Cabinet nominees are being screened.
The lawmaker said that during past vetting sessions, male MPs discriminated against women and gave men jobs who didn’t meet the qualifications for a Cabinet position.
Elachi stated on Citizen TV.
She urges female lawmakers should fight and support their own during the vetting process for Cabinet Secretary positions.
