James Ongwae, a former governor of Kisii, and Janet Ong’era, a former county Woman Representative, have both formally resigned from ODM party, claiming “bad treatment” as their reason for leaving.
On Thursday, the two stated they would forge their own path, one that “takes care of the interests of the Kisii region.”
“We made our choice after reviewing the actions leading up to the previous general election and the way the party handled us and our supporters via political patronage,” said Ongwae.
According to the ex-governor, the time has come for citizens to align themselves with progressive-minded leaders and parties that prioritize cooperation and group decision-making in matters of public importance.
It is unclear if they would affiliate with President William Ruto’s UDA party or another party within the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
At the outset in Gusiiland, they played crucial roles in Raila’s ODM and Azimio la Umoja.
