Four ‘opaque’ IEBC commissioners have been petitioned to resign.

Petitions calling for the dismissal of four IEBC commissioners have been submitted to Parliament.

Moses Wetangula, the speaker of the National Assembly, stated on Tuesday that his office had received petitions from the Republican Party, Dennis Nthumbi, Geoffrey Lagat, and Owuor Steve Jerry.

He officially began the process of their removal from office by committing the petitions to the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

The petitioners’ proof must satisfy the threshold for Parliament to force the president to convene a tribunal, and the committee has 14 days to make that determination.

Vice Chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission  Julian Chera is a prime target for removal from office.

Justus Nyangaya, Francis Wanderi, and Irene Masit are the other commissioners.

The Republican Party is calling for the immediate removal from office and prosecution of the four commissioners responsible for rejecting the final presidential results.

As a consequence of their effort to manipulate the presidential election results in order to force a runoff, the commissioners have earned Nthumbi’s demand for their removal from office.

Since both commissioners have broken the law, Lagat wants them out of office.

Owuor, on his part, feels the commissioners’ actions constitute a flagrant disregard for the law and calls for their removal.

Parliament’s approval of the petitions would require the President to convene a tribunal to legally remove them from office.

On the 15th of August, the four held a news conference at Serena Hotel to criticize the official presidential election results that had William Ruto proclaimed the victor.

The results announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati at Bomas of Kenya were deemed ‘opaque’ by the four commissioners.
