It’s a sad day for the Kenyan community as they bid farewell to a beloved educator and former Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha. The late CS will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 11, in his rural home in Yala.
But before he is buried, the former CS will embark on a farewell caravan that will take him to some of the most significant places in his life. The caravan will start at Lee Funeral Home and make stops at the College of Health Sciences at Kenyatta Hospital, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council Headquarters, St Georges Primary School, the Kenya National Examination Council, State House Girls High School, the University of Nairobi graduation square and end at Starehe Boys Center.
These places defined Magoha’s adult life, and his family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support from Kenyans from all walks of life. On Thursday, February 9, a requiem mass will be held at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, followed by the arrival of the deceased’s body at Township Primary School in Yala on Friday, February 10.
Finally, on Saturday, February 11, a funeral mass for the late Education CS will take place at Odera Kang’o University campus in Yala, starting at 10 am. The family expressed gratitude to the media for covering the professor’s passing with decorum.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and members of his cabinet have pledged to support Magoha’s family, with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announcing that they will fund the education of students under the late professor’s wing. “Let none of the children suffer on the account of our friend’s departure,” he stated.
So let’s all raise a glass and celebrate the life of a true Kenyan hero, as we say goodbye to George Magoha.
