A fuel tanker collided with a lorry transporting construction materials on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway at Awasi, resulting in the death of the fuel tanker driver, who was burnt in the vehicle when fire exploded after the collision.
Two people in the lorry, however, narrowly escaped unhurt.
The incident caused a major traffic snarl-up on the busy highway, with emergency response teams rushing to the scene to put out the fire and clear the wreckage.
To determine what caused the accident, investigations are still being conducted.
The Regional Traffic Officer has urged motorists to be cautious on the roads and to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to prevent such accidents.
