Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has requested that Kenyans give a portion of their income via a pay bill in order to aid those in the country who have been impacted by the drought.
Gachagua said that the National Youth Service (NYS) and the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) would each provide one day’s wage from their personnel.
He made the request, saying, “We ask to Kenyans of goodwill to deposit a portion of their salary to a pay bill number that will be created shortly to contribute to the drought response fund.”
For Friday, November 25, at the opening of the National Steering Committee on drought response, the DP delivered a speech.
In order to lessen the damage caused by drought, the DP has appealed for cooperation from all relevant parties.
He also offers a strong warning to criminal organizations and con artists, saying that the Kenyan government would not stand for them taking advantage of the people.
He also mentioned additional measures that were already in motion to assist support the delivery of emergency food supplies to regions hit by drought. He said that the government was hoping to raise Ksh57.5 billion ($472 million) to aid the more than 4.3 million Kenyans who had been impacted by the drought.
