Hassan Omar drops out of the race to be Senate Speaker and supports Kingi

Published on

Omar said that former Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has been endorsed by the Kenya Kwanza party following meetings with President-elect William Ruto and other party officials.

“I do not object to this, the position was reserved for Coast and hereby withdraw my candidature, and I trust that all senators will support my brother Kingi as the sole Kenya Kwanza candidate as so agreed upon by all of us.” he said.

Omar was one of fifteen candidates, including Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who had taken up applications for the office of Senate speaker.
