On Tuesday, August 30th, ODM candidate Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir was officially announced as the next governor of Mombasa County.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, Hassan Omar Hassan, received 98,180 votes, while Abdulswamad received 119,083.
Hassan Ali Joho, who has held the position for two terms starting in 2013, would be succeeded by him after he and his running mate Francis Thoya were elected.
At the county tallying center, the candidate was handed with his certificate by Swalah Yusuf, the Returning Officer for Mombasa County for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
