US First Lady Jill Biden has called for more Western countries to join in the fight against drought in Kenya, saying it is a humanitarian crisis that requires attention similar to that given to the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Speaking after meeting with drought victims in Kajiado County, Biden stated that the US had contributed over 70% of relief funds to the region and needed other countries to join the global effort.
The UN has warned that the region is facing a humanitarian crisis, with over 2.1 million people in Kenya requiring food assistance due to the drought.
Biden’s visit highlighted the need for more aid and support to the affected communities.
