The leader of the Wiper party, Kalonzo Musyoka, has dropped out of the race to be speaker of either the National Assembly or the Senate.
On Tuesday, the Wiper council met at the party’s headquarters and convinced their party leader to give up running for office and instead work on building his personal brand.
The Azimio One Kenya alliance has more members than the Kenya Kwanza party. This is because some MPs have left the party.
Both coalitions want to hold parliamentary group sessions when the 13th parliament convenes on Thursday.
The first order of business for the newly elected legislatures will be to choose their respective speakers once the members of both houses have been sworn in.
At least fifteen other people besides Kalonzo have taken up nomination papers for Senate speaker.
