Kasarani, Nairobi county, was in a state of panic on Tuesday, November 15, when a seven-story structure collapsed.
Many people may be buried under the wreckage of the collapsed building, according to news reports.
City Hall officers reportedly showed up in the morning for a regular inspection and ordered all construction workers to vacate the site immediately after finding it dangerous.
The supervisor, however, allegedly disregarded the warning and continued building illegally.
There were five persons rescued from the wreckage and sent to a local hospital.
The building’s ground floor had visible cracks, according to witnesses who talked to the media.
A construction worker who survived the catastrophe recounted the events and confirmed that they were warned about the cracks but disregarded the advice on contractor’s directives.
He also mentioned that the contractor involved had gotten away after the incident.
