Kenya Railways Train breakdowns, causing disruptions in operation.

On Thursday morning, December 15, two trains had mechanical problems, disrupting the morning commute for hundreds of people heading to the Central Business District of Nairobi.

It was unknown what caused the interruption, however, Kenya Railways issued a notice noting that the impacted trains traversed Lukenya and Syokimau.

However, there was no disruption to service on the other lines that converge on the CBD.

One train was to leave Lukenya at 5:45 am and arrive at Nairobi Central Station at 7:40 am, while the other train was to leave at 7 am and arrive at 8:55 am.

The morning timetable for trains from Syokimau had four different departure times between 6:20 and 10:40. It was unclear, however, exactly which trains had technical difficulties.

In addition, the commuter service said it was attempting to restore the interrupted services.

Disruptions in the past were often caused by the epidemic that limited people’s ability to travel.

In 2021, an SGR train was forced to make an emergency halt on route from Nairobi to Mombasa due to concerns about the safety of the rail line.
