Kenya to host a digital summit from April 2 to 5 in Kwale

The ICT sector has received a call to action to provide digital solutions for the upcoming Connected Kenya summit.

With a focus on current technology developments, the summit aims to bridge the digital divide within the country.

The four-day event, taking place in Kwale from April 2 to 5, will bring together local and international attendees to collaborate and produce results that benefit the country’s economic growth.

Private-public partnerships will be utilized to achieve digital solution results, and past summit successes, such as the creation of Huduma and the Presidential Digital Talent Programme, will be emulated.

John Tanui, Principal Secretary of the State Department of ICT, believes that this year’s event will contribute significantly to the implementation of the Digital Super Highway.

At the event, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo spoke about Kenya’s position as a regional ICT center and its goal of becoming a globally competitive digital economy.

The government’s main programs, including the creation of 100,000 kilometers of fiber optic infrastructure and 25,000 government-funded WIFI hotspots, align with this goal.

The government will also prioritize the automation and digitization of essential government services and the implementation of the national physical addressing system and the national geographic data infrastructure to encourage the development of e-commerce.
