Kenyan Global economists upgrade growth outlook after Election:

Published on

The calm completion of a highly contested presidential election has led some international economists to slightly improve Kenya’s growth prognosis for this year, despite the rising cost of living and escalating public debt concerns.

Even though people have been worried about elections in the past, the economy is expected to grow by more than 5% for the first time since Kenya’s multi-party political system started 30 years ago.

However, due to the rising cost of living, below-average rainfall, and a weaker shilling in a net import economy, growth is expected to be lower than the 7.5 percent seen last year.

The analysis reveals that two of the companies surveyed improved their growth projections for Kenya, while an equal number lowered their forecast.
