Japhet Koome was officially sworn in as the new Inspector General of Police on Friday.
The ceremony was held at the Supreme Court of Kenya and presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
Last Thursday, the National Assembly voted in favor of Koome.
A bipartisan committee from the Senate and National Assembly interviewed and evaluated Koome on Tuesday.
Koome’s candidacy as Inspector General of Police was accepted by Parliament with a 100% vote of yes.
He will succeed Hilary Mutyambai, who took terminal leave from the National Police Service owing to illness, as the agency’s top head. Only six months remained on his term.
