Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja sent a message to former KRA boss Githii Mburu on Twitter, wishing him well as he exits his position.
The two were involved in a court case after the KRA pressed tax evasion charges against Karanja in 2020, resulting in the taxman shutting down the factory multiple times since 2021.
In March 2022, a temporary settlement was reached, but the factory was shut down six times later that year for defaulting on an earlier agreed plan to repay tax arrears totaling Sh300m.
On July 29, KRA reopened Keroche following a court order, but in September, the taxman accused the brewery of failing to make the required payment agreed upon prior to reopening.
Keroche was summoned to physically appear in court on October 27, 2022, and as of February 7, the court ordered the DPP to supply copies of witness documents in the Sh 14.5 billion tax evasion case against Keroche.
Karanja denied all ten counts leveled against her by the State, and the case will be mentioned on March 13 to confirm whether the prosecution has supplied all documents to the defense.
Despite their legal dispute, Karanja sent Mburu a message of goodwill, sharing her favorite Bible verse on Twitter.
