Kithure Kindiki, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for the Interior, has issued an urgent order to recruit and deploy 200 National Police Reservists (NPRs) at the borders of Wajir and Isiolo counties.
In his Thursday address to Wajir locals, he also issued an order to vet, train, and arm chiefs and assistant chiefs in the region to aid in maintaining law and order.
Kindiki also commissioned the establishment of an elders’ council consisting of twenty people from both counties to work on plans for long-term peace between the two groups.
The CS traveled to Arabajan and Dadachbasha to meet with locals in those areas.
Noor Gabow, the police department’s Deputy Inspector General, accompanied him.
Together, the government and the Ministry of the Interior have vowed to put an end to the country’s persistent security problems.
During his speech to the people of Kitui on the topic of illegal herding, he also issued an order to enlist 250 police reservists.
No negotiations between criminals and the government, he warned.
