KPLC removes detailed breakdown of electricity bill charges from messages

Date:

On March 14, Kenya Power clarified that the decision to remove a detailed breakdown of token purchases from messages was a result of a survey conducted by the company.

The clarification was in response to queries raised by Kenyans online.

Previously, KPLC provided a detailed breakdown of tax, fuel energy, forex, and inflation adjustments in messages.

However, the new message now only includes tokens, the date of purchase, units, the amount spent, and the token amount, while all other charges will be accumulated as one.

Kenya Power stated that the change was made after customers requested a briefer statement of their electricity bills.

KPLC advised those who want more details on the charges to use the utility USSD code *977#.

The changes were made shortly after an increase in electricity prices caused by the adjustments of fuel charges and the increase in forex charges due to shillings weakening against the US dollar.
