On Thursday, October 6, customs agents at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) detained six women on suspicion of smuggling more than Ksh103 million.

According to reports, the six women, all of Somali descent, left India with US dollars hidden in their baggage.

Following a baggage screening, customs agents from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) found the cash. According to the statement from the authority, the cash was hidden in shoes and clothing.

Travelers are required to disclose any cash of more than Ksh1 million.

Items intended for domestic resale, gifts sent home for family members, and alcoholic beverages and bottles of wine more than one liter should all be mentioned. Additionally, travelers must report any toiletries and fragrances that are larger than one litre.
