It was sad, according to Winnie Odinga, daughter of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, when it became evident that President William Ruto had won the election in August.
Winnie said that the Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya Alliance had worked hard on their campaign in the hopes that the outcome would not favor their opponent.
In her eyes, Raila represented the best chance for many individuals to escape a miserable situation.
What happened was very heartbreaking. The effort, time, and energy put in were all for nothing. “Everyone counted on us to make sure this wouldn’t happen, or that the result would be different,” Winnie said on Citizen TV.
She said that it was tough to process the event, but that they had now accepted what occurred.
As part of the conversation, Winnie discussed the speculation that she may have been the reason her father lost the election.
According to some assumptions, she exerted a great deal of control over the campaigns and gave the ultimate word on most matters involving the teams responsible for them.
As for her campaign to represent the nation in the East African Legislative Assembly, she said that people shouldn’t only look at her family name, but at what she can offer if given the chance to do so.
