Madaraka Day Celebrations Moved to Moi Stadium in Embu Due to Cost Constraints

Date:

The Interior Ministry has changed the venue and theme for the Madaraka Day celebrations scheduled for June 1, 2023.

Instead of Njukiri Grounds, the event will now be held at Moi Stadium in Embu County due to cost constraints that made it impossible to complete the stadium in time.

Moi Stadium will be renovated at a cost of Ksh300 million to host 20,000 guests.

The theme of the celebrations has also been changed from Universal Healthcare to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to boost the economy.

President William Ruto will oversee the groundbreaking ceremony for the Njukiri project whose construction had stalled.

The project is expected to be completed within 45 days, according to the Interior Ministry Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.

Emphasizing the need to spur the economy, the change in theme and venue presents an opportunity for Embu entrepreneurs to promote their SMEs.
