Erik ten Hag’s side begin their Europa League campaign at Old Trafford against Real Sociedad.

The Red Devils, led by Erik ten Hag, fared well in the preseason but have lost their first two league games. Eventually, though, they staged a comeback, winning four games in a row, and they enter Thursday’s Europa League opener against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford feeling optimistic that the streak will continue.

Cristiano Ronaldo, a forward for Manchester United, will play his second game of the season at home against Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

The new player, Antony, has kept the 37-year-old out of the team’s starting squad, but manager Erik ten Hag is likely to use him in a rotation while Anthony Martial is still out with an Achilles injury.

Midfielders Casemiro and Fred, club captain Harry Maguire, and fellow defenders Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are expected to play, while left-back Luke Shaw and midfielder Donny van de Beek were absent from open training.

Manchester United provisional squad: Dubravka, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Malacia, Casemiro, Fred, McTominay, Ronaldo, Elanga, Sancho, De Gea, Heaton, Martinez, Varane, Dalot, Fernandes, Eriksen, Rashford, Garnacho, Fredricson, Mainoo.
