40 Digital Credit Providers (DCPs) whose procedures for the processing of personal data have been reported are the subject of an audit, according to the Office of the Data Protection Commission (ODPC).
Kenyans who complained that their personal information had been compromised prompted the action. Branch, AsapKash, Kashway, Ipesa, and Lemon Kash are some of the loan lenders featured.
Zuri Cas, Tala, Zenka Digital Limited, SkyPesa, Senti, Zash loan Wakanda Credit/Kashway, Rocket Pesa, and Premier Credit Ltd are among the others.
The Data Commissioner is also looking into Pocket Cash, PapCash, Metaloan, LionCash/Grola Tech ltd, Lemon Kash, KesLoan, KashWay, KashPlus, and KashBean.
Apesa/Zerox Technology Company Ltd, Cash, Cash sea, Collect Plus, Coopesa, Credit Kes, Credit Moja, Deltech Capital Limited/Mykes loan, Direct Kash, Fair Kash, Flashpesa, and Flexi Cash are additional targets for Immaculate Kassait’s office.
Hela Credit, Hikash, IKASH Connect, Instracahs, Ipesa, and Kash Loan are also on the list.
The ODPP also noted that in order to avoid being considered to have failed to cooperate with the Office, which is a violation of Section 61 of the Act, the mentioned DCPs must provide the necessary papers to the Office by October 18, 2022, during the audit process.
According to Section 58(3) of the Data Protection Act of 2019, anybody who violates an enforcement notice without a valid cause is guilty of an offense and subject to a fine or prison sentence of up to five million shillings, or both, if found guilty.
