Didmus Barasa, the newly elected member of parliament for Kimilili, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to killing Brian Olunga.
Olunga worked for Brian Khaemba, who was his opponent and a member of the DAP-K.
Barasa was given a Sh10 million bond and a Sh5 million guarantee.
The judge also ruled that he must give up his firearms and remain out of Bungoma county.
The Kakamega judge Paul John Otieno heard his case.
According to the postmortem performed last week, Olunga was killed by a gunshot to the right side of his skull.
Olunga died from a lot of bleeding after the bullet got stuck in his head.
