    Mudavadi criticizes Raila’s Tax statements

    Published on

Despite opposition charges that President William Ruto’s planned tax modifications are exploitative to Kenyans, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has granted his approval.

Mudavadi said that comparing the present economic situation to the one a decade ago is an untenable basis for the Opposition to criticize the tax initiatives.

Mudavadi stated, “The Opposition says that the economy was worse in 2003 when Narc came to office, but they were able to get the nation back on track without increasing taxes.”

Referring to the planned changes in monthly NHIF and NSSF payments, which Azimio has fought against, he made his remarks.

The Prime CS continued, saying that once the Kenya Kwanza administration’s ideas are put into action, they would make the Narc record seem shabby in comparison.

In an effort to achieve self-sufficiency and lessen dependency on borrowing, the William Ruto administration suggested a new tax structure. The opposition Azimio has been very critical of the plan.

In addition, Ruto said that he would not back down from his promise to boost NSSF payments from the current Sh200 per month to 6% of monthly wages.

He said that the plan is meant to encourage a habit of saving among Kenyans so that they may retire with more money.

The President has further recommended adjusting the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) so that people with higher incomes contribute a greater share of the total cost of health insurance.

In doing so, we want to help the national insurer in Kenya allocate more resources toward its goal of providing health care to all Kenyans.

In contrast, Azimio has voiced opposition to the ideas by labeling them as tax payments, an allegation that Mudavadi has refuted.
